Sunday-Oh-So-Fun. day

Happy Sunday to you!

I hope your Sunday has been good to you. Mine consisted of actually getting some stuff done since I had my lazy day yesterday. Lazy day=Netflix, Hulu, then back to Netflix, the back to Hulu (Thanks, Danielle for the subscription *wink *wink!) annnnnddddd just stepping outside to walk my dog, Brutus. Hair up, no makeup, definitely don’t give a what. Those are the best kind of days, right?!

Since I couldn’t relive that special Saturday I had yesterday, I actually went out and did grown up stuff. Being an adult is hard to do! Listen to how terribly adult and boring these tasks were that I did today: replace a tire that went flat on Thursday night(luckily I was at work while it happened but then I was stuck at work! Long story, maybe I’ll tell you all about it in another post where I have absolutely nothing else to write about and have you doubt as to why you are following and reading my blog still. LOL) and ended up buying 3 tires instead of 1 for some reason. Those damn tire guys, always tricking you. I wanted them to take them off so I didn’t have to pay for them but then I would have had to wait another God knows how long till they did that. My appointment was a 11AM and I didn’t leave till 1PM. =( Boo! In the end, I have 3 new tires and I feel like a grown up. Carrying on to my fabulous Sunday, I went to see my husband at work and did some grocery shopping for the week. There’s pizza where my husband works and I bought not one, but two slices of cheese pizza and chowed down. After walking to my car in the hot, humid, weather here in Tampa I went home immediately to pass out on my comfy couch with my cat, Berkeley sleeping right next to me on my pillow. She’s the sweetest thing.

Cheese Pizza at Costco

Mmmmm cheesy.

Now I’m home and listening to FUN. on Spotify. In decompression mode and getting psyched up for another week in order to continue to make this world a better place for those not as fortunate to spend a Sunday driving around and getting boring adult stuff done like they used to. With gratitude I wish you a happy Sunday night and great week ahead!

Happy Friday Eve!

I had this print pinned to my Things for My Wall board on Pinterest and felt like I needed to share it with you.

There have been times in my life where I thought “This isn’t what I imagined my life to be like. I thought it was going to be like (insert whatever you dreamed of)” And instead on focusing on what’s wrong with the picture, I started to look at what can I do to change it! Slowly(and I mean really slow) did I embark on a journey for this change. And, like my post from yesterday about looking how far you’ve come, the time will still pass you by and go on so you’re better off doing a little something now than a big change later.  Kinda like a 401k! (you get me, right?!)

Are you living the life you’ve imagined for yourself? If so, congrats to you! Please share your secrets with me!

If not, what are somethings you’d like to change? I’d love to know!

Consider what a long way you’ve come today

Good morning, to you!

Things are shifting quite fast in my life. I went from being a student to a graduate. A case manager to a manager. My husband and I went from having all the time in the world to be together to some days only seeing one another as we fall asleep. The weather here in Tampa has become monsoon-like and sunny days aren’t as long as they should be! With this being said, change is happening. Whether or not I choose things in life that change and help myself grow, I am at that point where I keep thinking about the future, i.e. what’s next? can I accomplish this? can I handle the seasons of my life? etc.The answer is: of course you can. of course I can!

This questioning/overwhelming feeling gave me awareness that I need to change my view-point and humble myself. I must look back at where I was a year ago and see how far I’ve come. I AM ENOUGH. YOU ARE ENOUGH. I don’t know each and every one of your journeys in the past year, but I am confident that you have come a long way since.

When I think back to a year ago, I get this happy and proud feeling for myself. As I am mentally giving myself a pat on the back, I think of all the changes happening and how positively they are affecting my life. In case you didn’t know, this time last year I was seriously questioning my ability as a future clinical counselor. In my mind all I could think of was all the barriers that I put inside my mind. I even thought about being a graduate school dropout at one point. Then I toyed with the idea of getting out of school quick and just getting my social services degree that didn’t set you up for licensure, i.e. less Internships and classes. Just so I could finish and not quit. WIth the help of my husband, family, and friends, I was inspired to not quit and to persevere. Seeing a counselor (counselors do and SHOULD seek their own counseling, IMO) helped me work through those barriers and a year later I graduated from school with my Master’s degree and I’m ready to start collecting hours towards my licensure! YAY! And, instead of me and my husband’s bank account looking sad and depressing, it’s now becoming a happy account where we do business and even stashes away money for rainy days. Double YAY!

inspiration quote

For your Hump Day and for me, Payday Eve, (Triple YAY!) I urge you to think about how far you’ve come in your life. Seriously take some time and look at every detail, every success, every failure, every nuisance that was occurring in your life last year. Ask yourself, “how have things changed? Holy crap! I got through it and lived to get the tee-shirt!” Time goes by so fast and life throws you more activities each day that it is so easy to not see these amazing life changing events.

What are some things that you have notice from last year to this year that are different? I’d love to hear about them! Really think about it because I am confident that you’ll be humbled and grateful for how far you’ve really come.

Here’s to making our own history and being an inspiration to yourself.

Time to celebrate

Thanks, WordPress! Is it just me or do you also love seeing a different icon in your notification button when you sign on to your blog? I know I got really excited when I saw a trophy. What could it be? I asked myself.

“Happy Anniversary with!
You registered on 2 years ago!
Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging!”
Awwww, yay! Thank you, WordPress for remembering!! It’s the littlest things such as this to get your day started or to make your day even more special. Each day of the week can feel like the same in, same out if you let it be. That’s why it’s so imperative for you to find the extraordinary in your ordinary day-no matter how small. I believe that by doing this you are caring for yourself AND keeping yourself happy.
And it’s not just because I said so. According to Positive Psychology, it’s healthier for you to focus on what your strengths are than what your weaknesses are. You are to look at what’s going right as opposed to what’s going wrong. Focus on your traits that make you happy, healthy, and strong mentally. The top five traits for a happy life are Love, Hope, Zest, Curiosity, and Gratitude. There’s a fun assessment from The Via Institute that gives you a free rundown of your top 5 traits. Give it a try! I’d love to hear what you get! My number one trait was Kindness. This is something that I remember to draw upon when life gets puzzling. What is your top trait? I’d love to know!
I hope you had a great start to your week!
<3 always,

Hi, loves!

How are you? I hope this blog post finds you super awesome on this Thursday eve.

I wanted to share with you with what I think is a problem. Blazers. Blazers with a lil’ shoulder padding. I recently bought a blazer from Old Navy in celebration of my promotion at work (hello, I am the Program Manager! Nice to meet you!) but when it arrived yesterday and I tried it on I didn’t feel “girly” in it. I know, I know. A blazer is something for work and not for play. I understand. But spending 8 hours in something that makes me feel blah/bloated but also wanting to look professional is a dilemma.

It’s no offense to Old Navy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their clothing. LOVE IT! I’ve bought nothing but dresses and tee shirts from them as they are affordable and stylish. Their sizing works for my body shape and that’s such good luck when you find a brand that seems to just work with your body.

So, what do I mean that I feel blah/bloated when I wear a blazer? I’ve always size up when it comes to jackets or coats due to my wide shoulders or whatever that is when you try a coat on and try to hug yourself and you feel like the sleeves are going to break off. I stand there in the dressing room imagining seeing a friend who I go to hug and realize I can’t wrap my arms around her in fear that my jacket sleeves will come off, thus scaring said friend away. Remember “Addams Family Values” movie? Remember Uncle Fester Addams played by Christopher Lloyd??!! That’s how I feel!

Anyone else feel this way when wearing a blazer?? Fashionistas, I need your help!

Lifebeinggirly, M.S. coming soon to the blog!

Happy 4th of July weekend, loves!

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend doing whatever finds you the most happiest. I wanted to share the good news with you…I’ll be graduating from grad school soon! How soon?? The last day of this semester is July 26th…that day will mean that I AM DONE!! I DID IT! Lifebeinggirly will have a Master of Science M.S. degree and will be one step closer to becoming a licensed clinical mental health counselor! YAY! YAY! YAY!

giphyyay minions

It still hasn’t fully hit me yet due to still having a few assignments in my class left to do, however, I learned that I passed my COMPS (counselor preparation comprehensive examination , aka CPCE) so that shows I have successfully understood what I have learned for the past two (three) years. It’s a test every counseling student must pass before they can officially graduate. AND I DID IT!

If you have followed my blog from the beginning, you know how much grad school was an up and down, rockin’ roller coaster of emotions, determination, quitting, giving up, inspiration, perseverance, confidence building and boosting, learning, everything that can put someone through an emotional car wash that lasted longer than you thought it would. I learned that everything requires hard work and that being successful doesn’t come easily, even though some people make it look that way! Know that if they can do it, you can do it, too! This shit didn’t happen overnight. It was replacing one negative opinion about myself with a positive and encouraging fact. It was telling myself, “You can do it. Don’t give up.” More positive affirmations as opposed to my usual all or nothing thinking of “Since I didn’t get that done, that means I won’t be successful in anything else!” No bueno.

I’ll save the long and sappy acceptance blog post for when I actually have that diploma in my hand, but I just wanted to encourage anyone who is second guessing themselves and/or thinking about quitting something to not give up on yourself. You can do it. And if anyone else tells you otherwise, stop talking to that person. Life is too short for those people!

I miss you guys! Please let me know how you’ve been doing! And, was there a time where you had to do positive affirmations to remind yourself that you rock?? I’d love to know!

On Giving Yourself Enough Credit

More often than not we don’t give ourselves enough credit. We discredit our accomplishments by telling ourselves or others that it was no big deal. Such saying like, “Well everyone does this anyways!”  or “It’s not that difficult to do.” “Everyone has one so no big deal.” “It was nothing.” “He/She did it better than me.” Do any of those sound familiar? If so then you are not giving yourself enough credit!

On this Wednesday, I want you to focus on all you’ve accomplished so far this week. Even if it’s the smallest thing, name it and write it down on a note. This will work as a “credit” card. Chances are that what you THINK is no biggie is a HUGE deal for someone else to carry out. Give yourself a pat on the back and be your own cheerleader! Grab your Bestie Betty Rubble and do what her and Wilma do best and “CHARGE IT!” once you pull out your completed “credit” card. When you’re feeling low, discouraged, or not as accomplished as you think you should be, write out your accomplishments of your day and use it to go back to so you can charge yourself up.

Here are some of my accomplishments this week:

  • Signing up and committing to my last graduate course even though it’s an online course (they intimidate me!)
  • Writing this blog post (the critic inside my head is like, “Oh, you’re only writing one post in two weeks?? You might as well not even have a blog.” Take that!)
  • Being kind to others and to myself
  • Lending a listening ear to others
  • Having patience

That’s what I have so far. I’m sure I’ll think of more as I go on with my day and I’ll add them to the comments below.

How do you feel about giving yourself enough credit? Do you feel like you could max out your “credit” card with goodness or do you have a full remaining balance? Either way, I’d love to read what your credit summary is so far!!

Thanks for reading!
